Why a metal core

The handle stays, the abrasive goes in the bin after the client. That is the hygiene argument for this system over disposable card files: the part that touches the nail is single use, but the handle can be properly disinfected between clients, which a card file never can. It also stops you throwing away a whole file to change grit.
