Nail nippers with an 11 mm jaw, for shortening nail plate rather than working skin.

Heavier build than a cuticle nipper, because the job is different: you are cutting through plate, and a light tool flexes and crushes the free edge instead of parting it. Take thick or ridged nail in two or three bites across the width, never one.

Double spring between the arms, which is what gives you the even return and the quiet close. On a nail nipper that matters more than on a cuticle nipper: you are working against a harder material, and a spring that fights you is a spring that makes you rush the cut.

Polished and passivated finish. Passivation is the surface treatment that keeps the steel from pitting after a few hundred autoclave cycles.

Care

Stainless steel, so it takes autoclaving and chemical disinfection between clients. Dry it properly before it goes back in the pouch: moisture left in a hinge is what causes staining and eventually stiffness, not the sterilisation itself.
