The J-404 is a built-in extractor, designed to be recessed into the manicure table rather than sat on top of it. That gets the intake level with the working surface, which is the right height to catch filings as they fall instead of after they have drifted.
It also clears the desk. On a station where the client rests their forearm for an hour, a unit that is flush with the surface is the difference between a comfortable position and working around an obstacle.
